Adelaide, the only city in the world to be surrounded by Park Lands.

Adelaide is one of a kind, the only city in the world to be surrounded by Park Lands.

The largest inner urban park system in Australia, the Adelaide Park Lands are described as the city design’s crowning glory, a place that differentiates us and is part of who we are.

With over 7,600,000 square metres of curiosity, tranquillity and fresh air, the Park Lands are Adelaide’s biggest backyard and home to a rich, diverse space where events, sports, fitness, playgrounds and social catch-ups are plentiful.

Located on the traditional Country of the Kaurna people, Kaurna actively manage and live off the land and waterways of the region. Kaurna heritage is recognised through physical features of the city.

The city’s vision was designed by Surveyor-General Colonel Light including six city squares, gardens and the leafy figure of eight, wrapping around the city and North Adelaide. Today the Park Lands enrich our community’s well-being and quality of life, offering a safe and relaxing escape, Adelaide truly is, a “city in a park”.
