So you are annoyed because your wife keeps on telling you that you are not doing this thing or that thing right? Well, sorry to tell you but you are not even breathing right!
If you have the talent of catching a cold easily or you are suffering from sinusitis, there’s a high probability that you are not breathing right. Hansaji Yogendra, the director of The Yoga Institute located in Santacruz, Mumbai explains that most people don’t really know how to breathe properly. But the good news is that you can correct your breathing pattern with the help of yoga. There are certain kriyas, aasanas and pranayams that hHastapadasana-Standing-Forward-Bendelp you in building up your lung capacity and thereby decrease the chances of catching a cold. Try these simple ideas and you’ll see a difference.

  • Avoid sitting under the fan or in a vehicle on the move while your hair is wet.
  • Sit in the sun for 10-15 minutes every day with your eyes closed.
  • After having a meal, drink a glass of lukewarm water so that the food particles trapped in your throat can get washed away.
  • Cover your head while sleeping

Practice the below mentioned yoga exercises for increasing your lung capacity and who knows you might end up with a flat stomach and glowing skin as well –

  • Sukhasana – You simply have to sit like a yogi. That’s right! Sit with your legs crossed and pull your stomach inside. Straighten up the spine, relax the shoulders and close your eyes. It slows down the metabolism and therefore you won’t feel tired while doing the exercises.
  • Hastapadasana – Also known as the ‘chewing gum bend’, this aasana is really good for your stomach. Stand with your feet slightly apart and now raise your arms above the head while taking a deep breath. Exhale for 2-3 seconds and then bend down and try to grab your ankles. Make sure your knees are not bent. Repeat the exercise 10-15 times.
  • TalasanaStretch your body as if you are a palm tree! It increases the lung capacity and cures chest congestion. Stand with your feet 10-12 inches apart and keep your chest forward. Lift your arms towards the ceiling, rise on your toes (all the while inhaling) and join the hands above your head. Stretch as much as you can. Exhale while returning back.
