KK, the singer with the “voice of the heart” passes away unexpectedly

Krishnakumar Kunnath, popularly known as KK, passed away a few hours after performing in a concert at a packed auditorium in Kolkata, West Bengal. He was rushed to the hospital after he complained of feeling uneasiness, but the doctors declared him dead at the hospital.

While tributes poured in across the social media about the beloved singer, fans who attended his concert uploaded pics of the show where he could be seen performing profusely. Moreover, the video clips suggest that KK was uncomfortable and took a break to wipe his face. At the same, he was gesturing to a man to enquire about the air conditioning.

Consequently, many people on social media pointed out that the auditorium had a seating capacity of 2,482, but the crowd was more than double the capacity. Therefore, the West Bengal authorities initially ruled a case of unnatural death and launched an investigation.

What caused KK’s death

The preliminary autopsy report revealed that he might have had underlying heart conditions that caused his sudden death after the performance. Moreover, the report indicated that heart attack was the primary cause and pointed out to “myocardial infarction” that could have caused the blood pumping to his heart to stop.

A doctor who performed the autopsy said that he had a significant blockage in the left main coronary artery and minor blockages in various other arteries and sub-arteries. But it was the excessive excitement during the live concert that caused a stoppage of blood flow leading to cardiac arrest.

KK’s wife mentioned that before he left for Kolkata from Mumbai, he had pain in his arms and shoulder; he also had gastric problems, which led him to take antacids occasionally. Furthermore, the doctor said that KK had an 80 percent blockage in the left main coronary artery and small blockages in various other arteries and sub-arteries.

However, none of the blockages was 100 percent. Still, during the concert performance, KK was walking around and, at times, dancing with the crowd, which created excessive excitement.

Unfortunately, KK died while being taken to the hospital. Following the untimely death of the 53-year-old singer, his admirers questioned the mismanagement of the venue coordinators. Also, they pointed out the lack of security and proper arrangement to tackle the overcrowded audience members.

The music industry mourns the loss of an immensely talented singer whose songs touched the hearts of many people; his colleagues and fellow singers, including Shaan, Sonu Nigam and others, expressed their condolences online.
