SYDNEY MARATHON AND TATA CONSULTANCY SERVICES ANNOUNCE NEW NAMING RIGHTS PARTNERSHIP

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), India’s premier IT services conglomerate, has further expanded its commitment to global athletics by securing a five-year title partnership with Australia’s largest marathon, the Sydney Marathon. This collaboration marks a significant addition to TCS’s already impressive portfolio of marathon sponsorships, solidifying its influence in the intersection of technology, community, and sports. The newly christened TCS Sydney Marathon joins a prestigious list of events under TCS’s sponsorship, which includes four of the World Marathon Majors: New York, London, Chicago, and Boston, as well as other marathons in Amsterdam, Mumbai, Singapore, and Toronto. Through these sponsorships, TCS supports over 600,000 runners globally, demonstrating its vast impact on the marathon running community.

The Sydney Marathon, originally launched on April 30, 2000, as The Host City Marathon to test facilities for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, has grown significantly over the years. Held annually in September, it now attracts over 40,000 participants from more than 100 countries. Renowned for its scenic route that encompasses iconic landmarks like the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House, the marathon not only celebrates athletic prowess but also raises substantial funds for charity, with over $26.5 million donated since its inception. This year, the marathon is set to occur on September 15, 2024, with added anticipation as TCS pushes to elevate the event to even greater heights. TCS aims to support the Sydney Marathon’s candidacy for the Abbott World Marathon Majors, a distinction that includes the world’s six most iconic marathons. To achieve this status, the Sydney Marathon must meet stringent criteria over two consecutive years, a goal that could significantly enhance its economic and cultural impact on Sydney and the broader New South Wales region.

The partnership also underscores TCS’s longstanding involvement in Australia, where it has been a pivotal technology provider for nearly four decades. Vikram Singh, the TCS Country Head for Australia and New Zealand, emphasised the company’s dedication to leveraging its technological expertise and passion for sustainability and wellness to forge a memorable marathon experience. “We are proud to continue our commitment to the community with this new partnership,” Singh stated, highlighting the synergy between TCS’s business objectives and community engagement.

For TCS, this partnership is more than just a sponsorship; it’s a strategic engagement that enhances its brand visibility and reinforces its commitment to health and wellness. Being recognised in the 2024 Kantar BrandZ report as one of the world’s top 50 most valuable brands, TCS continues to build its reputation not only as a technology leader but also as a major contributor to global sports and health initiatives.

The association with the Sydney Marathon provides TCS an ideal platform to engage more deeply with its clients and partners in Australia, one of its fastest-growing markets. This partnership aligns with TCS’s broader objectives of promoting wellness, leveraging technology for societal benefit, and enhancing its community presence globally. Through this initiative, TCS not only champions the cause of fitness and health but also demonstrates the pivotal role that global corporations can play in promoting societal well-being and cultural exchange.
