Indian Film Festival of Melbourne returns

A celebration of diversity and culture on the big screen at HOYTS!

Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) returns to HOYTS Cinemas, bringing audiences a selection of films that celebrate the diversity, creativity and cultural richness of Indian cinema.

From 14 August to 24 August 2025, audiences can experience 47 film screenings across HOYTS Chadstone, HOYTS District Docklands and HOYTS Highpoint.

HOYTS General Manager of Programming & Content Michelle Gater said the exhibitor proudly supports IFFM as it connects the Indian film industry with international audiences.

“For the past 16 years, HOYTS has been partnering with IFFM to bring diverse stories to the big screen which are deeply connected to tradition, community and identity,” Michelle said.

“We’re proud to support IFFM’s vision to showcase the full spectrum of Indian cinema by representing stories that cross languages, generations and geographies, where voices from marginalised, LGBTQIA+, regional, and First Nations communities are not only seen, but celebrated.

“This year’s line-up offers an incredible array of films and unmissable events. Alongside Tollywood and Bollywood blockbusters with exclusive Q&A sessions, there will be an opening for Baksho Bondi (Shadowbox), joined by IFFM Chief Guest and Indian film icon Aamir Khan, lead actress Tillotama Shome, producer Jim Sarbh and director Tanushree Das.”

Attendees can take part in Q&A sessions with special guests for the following films during IFFM at HOYTS District Docklands:

• Homegrown Documentaries: Finding Grandpa and Piquancy Silent Heroes on 19 August
• Deeva (The Radiant Light) on 20 August
• Mercy on 20 August
• From All Sides on 21 August
• Nukkad Naatak (A Street Play) on 21 August
• Pride at IFFM: A short film package, Badnam Basti, and We are Faheem and Karun on 22 August
• Gharat Ganpati on 23 August

IFFM Festival Director Mitu Bhowmick Lange AM said IFFM has been privileged to be a platform for extraordinary films, courageous voices, and exceptional talent – both celebrated and emerging.

“This year’s lineup continues that legacy with a rich tapestry of storytelling: from soul-stirring features to hard-hitting documentaries and entertaining shorts, each film reflecting the myriad of realities, dreams, and complexities of India and the subcontinent,” Mitu said.

Over the ten-day festival, HOYTS will be offering exclusive Candy Bar deals at the selected locations for HOYTS Rewards members, including:
