Spreading the word about ghee and Masterchef’s Sashi Cheliah is purely inspirational

Although it’s been around for centuries, the many benefits of ghee have elevated it to cult health food status in the last few years.

Puresoul Foods, part of KG Foods, is one brand that inspires a more conscious lifestyle by encouraging people to make positive changes to their lives whilst offering a range of grass-fed ghees and gluten free pulses.

“Ghee has a high melting point so unlike butter, it doesn’t burn in cooking, and as there’s no smoke it retains its flavour,” says KG Foods Brand Director Divya Raghunath. “Burnt butter isn’t good as it can be carcinogenic. Ghee is also high in butyric acid which is good for gut health. It’s really risen in popularity thanks to the keto diet and many celebrities and fitness experts are fans.”

KG Foods will be exhibiting their extensive range of products at this year’s 2022 Naturally Good Expo on from June 6-7 at Sydney’s ICC, including an existing range of theirs called Sashi’s Secret – ready to make Asian meal kits.

Devised with 2018 Masterchef winner – Indian Singaporean Sashi Cheliah – who is currently starring in Masterchef Fans & Faves, Divya says the range has been around for three years now. “It has already been quite popular with supermarkets such as Woolworths and Drake’s. However, we will be expanding our plans to find additional distributors and buyers.”

Divya

Born and raised in Southern India, Divya grew up with a natural consciousness towards Ayurveda and yoga. Now residing in Melbourne with her husband and two young daughters, she is a devout Vinyasa Yogini and lover of all things when it comes to food.

“When we take care of our body, mind and soul it takes care of us in return,” she says. “I feel health is the most integral part of life and we need to preserve it in a time where humans are moving away from the goodness of nature.”

After first exhibiting Puresoul’s ghee in 2019 at the expo, buyers from Coles, Priceline and health food stores were soon lining up. The product is now in Costco selling a ghee twin pack which is doing incredibly well, and is currently turning over $1 million.

Last year when KG Foods tested the waters with a pre-launch of a new brand called ALTN (taste the alternate) at the expo, reaction to the mouth-watering free samples including dumplings, siu mai and chicken rice, was so good that people didn’t want to move from their stand.

“Some people just hung around the stand for ages trying everything and there were quite a few repeat tasters that kept coming back saying they loved how authentic everything tasted. That was quite crucial to hear given that the product is from Singapore as it’s helped us understand the way we should be marketing the product.”
