DEEPIKA PADUKONE’S STINT WITH HOLLYWOOD

 DEEPIKA PADUKONE’S STINT WITH HOLLYWOOD

Starting her acting career in 2007, Ms. Lady-long-legs Deepika Padukone has indeed come a long way. Touted as the number one actress since 2014, thanks to her stellar performances in movies like Bajirao Mastani, Piku, Ram Leela (just a few names to probably a very long list!), Deepika has more than enthralled us. After conquering Bollywood, our doe-eyed beauty is all set to make her Hollywood debut in “XXX: The Return of Xander Cage” alongside Vin Diesel. The trailer is out and Deepika is looking phenomenal showing off her slender figure. The blood red lips deserve more than a mention here. By the looks of it, Deepika slays in the movie (quite literally!).

Deepika plays the character of Serena in the film. “xXx: The Return of Xander Cage” is a sequel to the 2002 film “xXx” and 2005 film “xXx: State of the Union”, which also stars Vin Diesel, Samuel L. Jackson, Donnie Yen and Tony Jaa. This is not the first or the last time, when a Bollywood celebrity has made an appearance in the West. However, they are often criticised for their choice of roles (usually that of a stereotypical Indian in a western setup), or for their blink-and-miss appearances that fail to garner them any applause. The dusky beauty said “An actor should be cast in a movie only if his or her talent brings something unique to the table. I don’t think an actor’s religion, gender, or the region he or she belongs to, should be the reason to sign him or her for a film.” She added that “It is not about the size of the role but the experience. It was fun.”

Unlike her contemporary Priyanka Chopra, Deepika is taking baby steps in Hollywood. While Ms. Chopra is the talk of the town in Hollywood with her regular appearances from the Oscars to People’s Choice awards, Deepika is comparatively taking it easy. The leggy lass is not a part of the rat race it seems. She said in an interview: “I was offered films in the past too, but they just didn’t feel right. I have always followed my heart and my instinct.” And talking about the obvious Bollywood-Hollywood comparison, Deepika said that it is more or less the same except the fact that the latter has more structured timing that allows weekends. Is Bollywood listening?

Awaiting her international debut, Deepika said in a recent interview that she is both nervous and excited. She starts her Hollywood innings in “xXx” on January 20, 2017 when the movie is slated to release. Whether Ms. Padukone will be able to entice the Western world with her charm or not, only time will tell!
