HOME DECORATION? NO PROBLEM!

HOME DECORATION? NO PROBLEM!
Harshit Sinha

We all crave for variety once in a while in our living spaces. But most of us shy away from redecorating our homes because we think it’s either difficult or expensive. But it doesn’t have to be either. In this article, we tell you four quick ways in which you can bring freshness into your home all year round.

Home is where the heart is, and the heart wants different things on different days. No matter who we are, we like to have a bit of variety in our lives. It can become quite drab and stale to live in the same house day in, day out for years amid the same colours and furniture. Home decoration does not need to be a stressful or expensive activity either; sometimes, small changes can have big effects.

Pay attention to your throw pillows
Throw pillows – those square pillows you use as back-rests on your couch – add colour, texture and polish to a living room space. There are endless ways in which you can mix and match them. You can go for similar colours as the rest of the decor if you’re going for elegance and minimalism, but you can occasionally use pillows that add a dash of colour so that they stand out and lend personality to your room. Equip yourself with pillow covers of different shades and keep changing them.

Lights and lamps
Lights and lamps are not just for Diwali anymore. Even if your room is well lighted otherwise, install a few standing lamps of different colours and moods so that you can pick a light depending on the occasion. Want to read a book? Turn on the personal reading light. Want to gaze into your beloved’s eyes? Cue the mood lighting. Want to perform tasks efficiently? Turn on the normal lighting and open the curtains. This switching between different lights will give the same room a different look each time.

Curtains
When you combine different light shades with different curtains, you have the power to change the look of a room completely at will. Here too, the range of options is almost unlimited when it comes to colours and style. You can go for floral, sheer, thick, thin – you name it, you can have it without having to spend a fortune, and they will all make your room different in a certain way. Keep updating your curtains at regular intervals to keep the mood fresh, and remember to use perfumes that complement your curtains.

Accent walls
A feature wall or a painted wall doesn’t have to cost a fortune any more. Now we have these things called accent walls, which you can purchase for as little as $30 and install with a few hours’ effort. Different patterns and colours exist on the market, and they come in different sizes, so you can use them not only in your living room, but also in tastefully selected wall portions in the bedroom, bathroom and kitchen. The best part about them is that they can be changed whenever you want without any hassle whatsoever.
