Can movies be jinxed?
They say even God cannot lift a curse. Here are five movies that are believed to be cursed, so appalling were the consequences to the people who were involved in them.
- Rebel Without A Cause (1955): All the stars of this movie had tragic deaths. Before the movie released, James Dean, who was just 23, died in a car chase. Natalie Wood, who co- starred with Dean, died an unfortunate death at the age of 44, as a consequence of unusual drowning. Sal Mineo was brutally gored to death at the age of 37. Troy McHenry, who had retro-fitted his car with parts from Dean’s, also died a year later when he drove into a tree.
- Poltergeist (1982-1988): Within six of the release of the first movie of the trilogy, four of its actors died. Dominique Dunne (Donna in the first movie) was murdered by her ex-boyfriend. Julian Beck (Henry Kane in Poltergeist II) died of stomach cancer. Will Sampson, the 53 year old actor, who acted as the medicine man in the second movie, died of post- operative kidney failure on June 3, 1987. Heather O’Rourke, who starred as Carol Anne in all parts of the movie, died as a result of septic shock on Feb 1, 1988.
- Rosemary’s Baby (1968): The plot of the story revolves around a young woman whose life’s events get routed by the horror and paranoia over the safety of her unborn child. The movie was a great commercial success but after a year of its release, the director’s wife Sharon Tate was murdered by the Manson family when she was eight months pregnant.
- Godspell (1973): Most of the actors in the movie died at a young age. Of the ten members who acted as Jesus’ apostles, four have already died. Lynne Thigpen, famous for his greatest children’s show “Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?” died of brain haemorrhage at the age of 54. Another actor, Jeffrey Mylett, died at the age of 36 overtaken by AIDS. Mererell Jackson, who sang “All Good Gifts”, was muted at 38.
- Twilight Zone: The Movie (1983): On July 23, 1982, while the filming of a segment of this movie, three actors were killed in a helicopter crash. The lives of the actor Victor Morrow, 53, and two child actors, Myca Dinh Le, 7, and Renne Shin- Yi Chen, 6, were taken by the top rotor blades of the helicopter.
