SC rejects plea to assess the ban on gay sex
It seems that the plea regarding reassessment of the ban imposed on gay sex has been thrown away by the Supreme Court. The SC firmly refused to reassess its verdict of criminalizing gay sex henceforth, disappointing LGBT activists. The panel of judges went through all of the connected papers of the review petitions and firmly refused to reconsider the order that they had impugned. There were a total of eight petitions that were put in front of the judging panel consisting of Justices S J Mukhopadhyaya and H L Dattu but in vain.
Now, the LGBT community and the Government might have to come up with a directive which can overturn the law by bringing constitutionality into the petitions with reference to IPC Section 377. Henceforth, this certainly points to the fact that both of these parties are strongly looking forward to a parliamentary route in order to alter the law.
