Amitabh Bachchan Doesn’t Want Shakti’s Remake to be Made

These days it’s a trend to make remakes of iconic Bollywood films, especially those films that featured ‘star of the millennium’ Amitabh Bachchan in the avatar of ‘angry young man’. Many of Bachchan’s classics such as ‘Zanjeer’, ‘Don’ and ‘Agneepath’ have already been remade and there are several others lined up, including his 80s blockbuster Shakti. But apparently, Big B is not very pleased with the idea of Shakti being remade. The 72 year old actor says, “It’s a very special film and I don’t think there should be any remake of the movie.”
He further added that this film gave him the huge opportunity to work with Dilip (Kumar) ji, who he considers to be his idol. He said that it’s very difficult to imagine someone else in the shoes of those iconic characters. Shakti was released in the year 1982 and is considered a masterpiece revolving around the life of an honest policeman and his gangster son. The film brought two of the most powerful superstars of their eras together on the silver screen, for the first and possibly for the last time.
The original was directed by Ramesh Sippy and featured Raakhee, Smita Patil, Amrish Puri, Kulbhushan Kharbanda and Anil Kapoor (special appearance), besides these two megastars. Both Dilip Kumar and Amitabh were nominated for Best Actor’s award, but eventually Dilip Kumar bagged the title.
