Over the last one year, the number of Chinese and Indian Immigration to Australia has been on the rise, according to Australian Bureau of Statistics. From January 2013 to August 2013, approximately 19,000 Indians immigrated to Australia in order to stay there for good. The number of Indian immigrants increased by 300% compared to last year.
There has also been a small increase in the number of immigrants from China to Australia. During 2012 and 2013, around 18,240 people arrived in Australia from India. However, only 26,170 immigrants were from New Zealand.
The United Kingdom is another main source of Immigration to Australia. However, the number of arrivals from the United Kingdom has decreased from 15,790 to 11,450.
Other countries from where migrate to Australia on permanent basis include Sri Lanka (3580), Vietnam (3630), and Philippines (7270).
According to the most recent Census of Population and Housing, around 5 million people in Australia were born in other countries of the world.
