If your kid is twelve or older, then he or she has to wear a mask before stepping out of the house. For kids between two to twelve, masks are not compulsory but should be considered for safety. As for toddlers, they don’t need to cover their faces with a mask as it is difficult for them.

WHEN DOES IT COME IN EFFECT

The mandate has been delayed by the government to give people time to buy a mask. If you don’t already have a mask, then grab one before 11.59 pm on Wednesday, July 22 because that is when the rule will become compulsory.

WILL I FACE CONSEQUENCES IF I DON’T WEAR A MASK?

You will have to pay a fine of $200 if you don’t wear a mask outdoors. In case you have a particular medical condition, then you may be exempted from wearing a mask. It is advisable to carry a mask while running, even if you don’t put it on. Students who are attending VCE, VCAL, or for onsite supervision have to put on a mask in school. Teachers don’t need to wear a mask when teaching, but they must wear it at all other times.

WHAT IF I DON’T HAVE A MEDICAL-GRADE MASK?

You don’t necessarily need a medical-grade mask, but it should cover the mouth and nose. If you wear a homemade mask, then make sure it is fitting correctly or try a face shield. You can find disposable masks at the chemists or buy them online.
