Often you miss a man until he makes it big. Rohit Khandelwal, who has just been crowned Mister World 2016, has been in and around the small screen of India for years, and yet no one has noticed him. Now that he has broken out, he seems to be the talk of the town. We have some basic facts about him that you should know.
Sometimes you get to know of the existence of a prize or an event after an Indian wins it. Until Rohit Khandelwal became the first Indian (and Asian) to ever win the Mister World title last month, very few people actually knew that such a beauty contest existed for men. Yes, we knew that a bodybuilding event called Mister Universe happens every once in a while, but is there a beauty contest for men too?
Well, yes there is. Rohit Khandelwal, in fact, was the winner of Mister India 2015, and now he has just come back after bagging the Mister World 2016 crown, after warding off competition from 46 other contestants. In this piece, we tell you a little more about him.
1. He is hot.
Let’s get it out of the way first. Just a look at his Instagram feed is enough to see this is true. If you’re in any doubt, sample a few of the drooling messages of his many female fans to any of his shirtless pictures. And yes, the philosophical messages accompanying the images are just the cherry on top; the man has brains too.
2. He was not always hot.
The story goes that three years back, he weighed eight-five kilos, and came to Mumbai, the city of dreams, to make a career for himself in show business. After a physical and grooming transformation that took a lot of hard work and time, he appeared in a few commercials and also in short television episodes like The Big F on MTV. That kicked off his career.
3. He has royal roots.
Though he is said to be hailing from Hyderabad, his family is of Rajasthani origin, and they have links to a royal past. His father heads the family business, which Rohit did not enter and wanted to make a name for himself in show business instead. We’re glad that he has been successful in following his heart.
4. He is a fitness freak.
This is kinda obvious, given that the Mister World pageant places a significant amount of emphasis on physique. For the competition, Rohit underwent rigorous physical training to get his body into shape, and all of that hard work paid off when he was named the winner. Mr Puerto Rico and Mister Mexico were the first and second runners up respectively.
5. He loves kids.
As if he doesn’t have enough to make him attractive enough to women all over the world, he is also reported to love kids, and makes it a point to interact with them at schools and NGOs around town whenever he can make the time for it.
