6 SIGNS YOU’RE IN A HEALTHY RELATIONSHIP

6 SIGNS YOU’RE IN A HEALTHY RELATIONSHIP
Divya Singh

Relationships are complex things. We always wonder whether the one we’re with is the right one, and whether our relationship is healthy. In this piece, we tell you exactly what to look for in order to judge whether you’re in a mature relationship.

HEALTHY RELATIONSHIP

Being in a committed, mature relationship in today’s day and age – where gender roles are constantly being challenged and changed, and where men are confused between taking women for granted and treating them with condescension – is nothing short of a blessing. Whether you have been in a long-term relationship or whether you’re still new to the dating game, here are a few signs of a mature relationship that you can look out for.

1. Being make-up free does not matter

Your boyfriend or significant other does not care whether or not if you wear makeup. No matter how zombie-like you look, at any time during the day or night, your boyfriend will still think you’re beautiful. You will feel normal and comfortable in your presence even when you’re not looking your best.

2. Fear is not the main factor in the relationship

All relationships go through a phase where both partners are extremely possessive of each other. We all fear that we will be left by our partners for someone better, but when your relationship reaches a stage where this fear can take a backseat, and where you can give each other all the space you need, that is when you can take it to the next level. In this space you will be comfortable in each other’s company and not jealous of each other’s friends.

3. You’re willing to change a few habits for him

A mature relationship is one in which both partners change a little for the other. You will find happiness in changing a few of your habits for him, and he will do the same for you. At a deeper level, this means that you are both changing together as people, and hopefully you’re complementing each other to build a whole which is greater and fuller than the individuals.

4. You finish each other’s sentences

It is a fact that people who have been in a relationship where conversation flows easily tend to finish their sentences. They tend to speak a lot to one another even in a group, and they also have similar viewpoints on certain topics. If you’re noticing that you and your significant other have been nodding along at each other’s words and finishing each other’s sentences, then rejoice! It’s a great thing.

5. You can have serious conversations with him

Fun and games are great, but when you’re in a relationship, you want to know that you’re with a person who can treat serious things seriously, and has a balanced but mature outlook toward life. After all, not everything in life is to be made fun of. So if you can have serious conversations with him about spirituality and philosophy, and if you can discuss your life dreams with him without drawing judgements, then it’s wonderful.

6. He bonds well with your friends

Getting the approval of your friends on your boyfriend is not necessary, but it’s a great plus. Your friends know you well, and since they’re not blinded by love and passion, they can see warning signs often better than you can. So if your friends love him and consider him their friend, then half your battle is won. Besides, you can all hang out together as friends, which makes everything great.
