DO YOU CALORIE COUNT YOUR SOFT DRINKS?
Calorie counting is a must for modern day diets. Restaurant chains have taken to including a calorie breakdown of their dishes. But do you remember to count the number of calories in your drink as well? For example, when you go to your local Macdonald’s, do you count the calories in your Coke along with the calories in your burger?
Studies are showing that people normally don’t. And this could be a big miss, because the calories in your drinks sometimes far outweigh the calories in our eatables. This is certainly true if the drink in question is a Coke. Doubly true if you’re going for a richer drink like a chocolate smoothie.
What’s more, research is also suggesting that a calorific drink at the end of a meal increases the ‘satiation’ level that we experience from it. So a snack that has the same calorific value as a drink does not have the same ability to give us the same psychological feeling of satiation. Carbonation also affects the satiation level of a meal, which means that if you have a carbonated drink, you’re more likely to feel ‘full’ after having relatively less calories than a richer drink.
This means that you eat less and that you will be able to maintain your figure, but the other side of the coin is that you don’t eat enough. So it’s important to maintain the balance, and to consider our drinks part of the calories we consume.
